REMEMBER the INNOCENTS FESTIVALS As part of its continuing programs to improve the lives of children, for the past three years Holy Land Trust has conducted an annual celebration for children in Bethlehem under the title "Remember the Innocents." The 28th of December is historically recognized as the day King Herod, fearing that the Prince of Peace would put an end to his own reign, ordered the deaths of all male children less than two years of age. (Matthew 2:1-8; 13-18, the Holy Bible) Every year, on the 28th of December, thousands of Palestinian children gather in Manger Square, Bethlehem, to celebrate their childhood and their innocence, especially during these difficult times. The festival in Bethlehem focuses on having Palestinian children become a voice for the voiceless children suffering oppression and abuse all over the world. Even with the difficulties they face, the children of Palestine continue to recognize the needs of other children across the globe and continue to call on the world to start addressing the needs of children everywhere. As a sign of this solidarity, banners hang in Manger Square during the festivals, created by the children of Palestine remembering the innocent children of the world. Local and international artists bring joy to the hearts of all children through a unique program of music, songs, theater and gifts. If you are in Bethlehem during the Christmas season, we invite you to join the children and families of this Holy city in remembering the innocent children of the world. Remember The Innocents seeks to raise worldwide awareness of how the suffering of innocents continues today as a result of political conflict, and what can be done about it. It offers new hope for children everywhere. For more information on the Remember the Innocent festival and how you can support the entire program for Palestinian children please contact Holy Land Trust. |
